Back in the quiet (but recently not so much quiet) town of Monroe, the past is about to come to a head. Kit is the newest K9 officer and she’s lucky enough to have her K9 partner, a tracking bloodhound, right when a series of arson cases pop up in Monroe. The towns experienced murder, betrayal, and bombs…what’s some more crime?
Suspicious of her new department despite her best efforts, Kit is independent in her own search for the truth. Alongside her bloodhound, she encounters one stoney but surprisingly nerdy watchtower foremen, Wes. Particular in his ways and insanely smart, the two strike up a relationship as town outsiders. But Kit has more than a new town and a new man to overcome. The interloper lighting all of the fires seems to be coming for her, and it’ll take someone brave enough to the face the flames to fight this foe.
While I loved the other RM K9 novels, Kit’s story was tough for me at first. There’s a lot of characters from the first three that are thrown at her and readers right in the beginning. Sometimes I found it hard to follow or catch up to what was going on. However, I LOVED Kit and Wes’s interactions. The quiet mountain man who loves his solitude finding solace in a woman…#swoon. While the story is more on what’s happening to the town of Monroe and it’s new residents rather than a love story, it’s still highly entertaining. I wanted more Kit and Wes but definitely got plenty of them with some PG interaction. All in all, a fun addition to this suspense/action romance that’s kept up the action and was certainly never boring!
He’s tall.
He’s dark.
He’s brutally handsome…
And he may be her only hope.
Kit Jernigan despairs of ever fitting in with her new tight-knit K9 unit—they’ve been through too much to welcome a stranger. So when a killer strikes, it’s a fight to convince her fellow officers to trust her long enough to catch the woman she knows is responsible.
She can’t do it on her own. What she needs most is a partner: local fire spotter Wesley March.
Wes knows in his heart that Kit is right, and he’s willing to leave his lonely tower to help her prove it. But the more time they spend together, the hotter the fire smolders…and the more danger they’re in. A member of the K9 unit’s inner circle is determined to have her revenge—no matter who gets burned in the process.
