Every once in a while there is a romance that gets real and not in a way that breaks your heart. It gets real in knowing that people can make mistakes and they can learn from them. That life is full of choices; some quick and some with deliberation. And some romances remind you that there is happiness out there for any and every one.
Zara has been managing her uncles bar for years; she works it like no one else could. After dealing with an unexpected breakup she finds purpose in her work. It’s steady and reliable and never boring. Proof of that is when a stranger walks in to her bar and she can’t take her eyes or her mind off of him. Dave is drifting, he holds none of the permanence she wants in life outside her bar. So when he makes the case for them to have a summer fling with strings, Zara takes the plunge and decides to enjoy what she can before he too leaves her. What she hadn’t planned on, was the gift he left behind: a child.
Zara knows that her daughter is her saving grace. She helped Zara settled when her life had been zooming past her in a haze of wild decisions. She’s now centered and finds that motherhood, something she never planned on, is something she was always meant to excel at. She may never forget the man who gave her a daughter but she’s come to terms that she’ll never see him again. That is until he drifts back in to town and she has to drop the bombshell on him.
Dave…sweet and bamboozled Dave. Its not easy task to learn you had a child that you didn’t know about. But he tries….so hard…..to just be the best he can. And no one can do it alone. The help of Zara’s family and Dave’s sister paints happy home life for their daughter one day. Not only does it warm your heart to see him and Zara reconnecting (when the summer fling had SOOOO much chemistry) but his adorable awkwardness with Nicole (their daughter) as he quickly fumbles and learns his way through fatherhood was REAL. He messes up sometimes but there are moments between them that will bring you to tears (THE HAMMOCK!!!!!)
There’s so much here that just shows a new side to single mother romance. Cause it’s not quite the typical romance. Zara is up front and honest about he trying to find Dave and in turn he’s honest about wanting to be there for both of them. Watching as they try to be together and try to be parents was a great read. I loved watching their romance unfurl in an emotional way. They had the sexual relationship down, no problem. The chance to be a family is one too sweet to pass up!
No last names. No life stories. Those were the rules.
Once upon a time a cocky, copper-haired tourist sauntered into Zara’s bar. And even though she knew better, Zara indulged in a cure for the small-town blues. It was supposed to be an uncomplicated fling—a few sizzling weeks before he went back to his life, and she moved on.
Until an accidental pregnancy changed her life.
Two years later, she’s made peace with the notion that Dave No-Last-Name will never be found. Until one summer day when he walks into her coffee shop, leveling her with the same hot smile that always renders her defenseless.
Dave Beringer has never forgotten the intense month he spent with prickly Zara. Their nights together were the first true intimacy he’d ever experienced. But the discovery of his child is the shock of a lifetime, and his ugly past puts relationships and family out of reach.
