FINDING ALEXEI – A Kendall Ryan Review

Kendall Ryan romances are like happy-crack. Not only are they mostly drama free, but they’ll leave any reader feeling happy and lighthearted after reading. A quick afternoon read filled with hope and romance, Finding Alexei is a fantastic addition to the KR collection. Left struggling to care for her ex-roomate’s baby, Ryleigh is trying to figure out “parenthood” amidst a Chicago winter when her knight in shining armor comes in. Big, commanding, but sweet as can be, Alexei sweeps Ryleigh and baby Ella away from the cold and into the warmth of his home. What kind of man cares for a stranger and a baby? Well not most but Alexei is the quintessential teddy bear and has a history of caring for his many little sisters and nieces. He’s got baby care down pat, now if only he could control his feelings fro Ryleigh.

Alexei isn’t known to bring woman around, let alone bring them home. After some bad press he needs to do all he can to save his image, taking care of a “single mom” isn’t his best idea but his own mama raised him better than to leave a woman in need. Baby Ella sweeps Alexei away instantly, and Ryleigh is feisty and sexy on her own. Spending weeks with her in his home is like living in a daydream. Ryleigh’s the first woman in Alexei’s life that doesn’t care about his fame or money. She’s independent and doesn’t want to be just a charity case to him. As they cross the line from new friends into sexual partners, their homey life becomes even tighter. When it all comes down to a final decision on what happens to baby Ella….

I definitely wasn’t prepared for the truth about baby Ella’s mom. But I definitely loved this quick read romance. Alexei and Ryleigh have chemistry off the charts. They immediately slid into a relationship without even realizing it! Watching them fall for one another was so sweet and made me giddy. Add this to your TBR for some feel-good romance any day!

He’s bossy, moody, and overprotective.

He’s also a pro athlete who needs to focus on winning games and staying out of the headlines.

I’m fiercely independent and need a man like I need a second period each month.

So when our worlds collide, I never expected him to be the one to jump in and save me. Especially not when my roommate disappears, leaving me with her baby.

I’m clueless about babies—and it shows. Good thing Alexei isn’t. With six nieces and nephews and an apparent hero complex, the dude is both sexy and more than capable. It’s a combination that makes it easy to forget we’re just playing house.

SHADOW AND ICE – A Gena Showalter Review & Excerpt Reveal

1021181

It’s a royal rumble and the gods have come to play an all out war. Other realms, unknown to mankind, have been fighting for centuries in the All War. A Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones battle that pits the best of the best warriors from each realm against one another for total control of the new world. Reigning four time champion, Knox, is out for blood once more. He’s more than determined to win the world for his tyrannical king; he’s out to win for his freedom one and for all. Ready to battle it all against the fiercest competitors, Knox is prepared for every eventuality. Except for one human female.

Vale is just trying to survive the wintery cold of her current lost state, along with her sister, when fate decides the throw them a bone; more like a cavern out of the elements actually. But its not the cave that saves her, its the contents inside that alter her reality. Encased in ice are warriors from ages past and one in particular, dark and sensual catches her eye. When suddenly the ice breaks and the cavern erupts into a battle for the ages with Vale and her sister caught in the crossfire. Swept away by the dark hero (or villain?), Knox, Vale learns of past wars, other realms, and a fantasy that no one could dream of happening right in front of her. When fate deals a final blow and enters Vale into the war as a contestant and therefor granting her immortality. NOW Vale has to battle the world, Knox, and her destiny written in stone.

As Knox and Vale battle each other and other combatants, they each struggle with an internal battle as well. Fighting attraction and trust issues is no easy feat when your own instincts, and now powers, pull you in every direction. Vale has to battle past memories, a now side effect of her powers mixed with her synesthesia. All while trying to convince Knox to fight by her side as an ally rather than as her captor. A reverse Stockholm Syndrome occurs when Knox’s own internal and immortal instincts tell him the Vale is necessary to his survival, he just doesn’t know how or why. An ally is always a weakness and Knox has never possessed a weakness…since the death of his beloved daughter. But as Vale chips away at his defenses (internally and physically), Knox discovers a new side of himself, that’s stronger than anything he’s ever faced.

Love. This story is about love. And sex and violence and power and control but beyond all that LOVE conquering all. A message conveyed in every caress from Vale. In every sacrifice from Knox. In the lengths Vale and her sister will go to find one another again amidst battle. Not to mention those willing to die in this battle to protect the ones they love not even on the planet. Filled with explicit and entertaining fights scenes to rival and blockbuster, this story will have on the edge of your city dying to know how Vale and Knox can overcome every obstacle that threatens to tear them and the world apart. An amazing 5 star read from the genius fantasy mind of Showalter and I’m dying to hear just what comes next from the Gods of War.

Excerpt SAIGSER

Present Day Somewhere in the Arctic Circle

“Heads are going to roll.”

Sore, tired and chilled to the bone, Vale London dropped a ten thousand pound backpack, leaned against a wall of ice and scanned her surroundings—a sea of snow broken up by mountains and seracs that made her fancy that ocean waves had flash-froze just before they’d come crashing down.

Frigid wind howled, the sound of it somehow more glacial than the below zero temp, screams of pain and helplessness seeming to echo within.

“Are we talking literally or figuratively?” Her beloved foster sister Magnolia “Nola” Lee dropped her pack as well, sat atop it and drew a thick flannel blanket around her shoulders. “With you I never know.”

Vale savored the flavor of sweetened brown butter that coated her tongue. At some point in her childhood development, wires had gotten crossed in her brain, leaving her with a severe case of synesthesia. She heard sounds, just like everyone else, but she tasted them, too. Letters also registered as colors, and numbers appeared as a three-dimensional map inside her head.

The more nuanced the sound, the richer the flavor.

“Figuratively…maybe,” she replied. “The next time I see our absentee guide, he’ll be lucky to walk away. Or even crawl.” She wasn’t known as a street-tough scrapper for nothing! And the POS had ruined what was supposed to be the vacation of a lifetime, so he had to pay.

Dang it, Nola hadn’t needed this kind of stress, or danger. She’d needed a break. The girl worked two full time jobs. If she wasn’t baking and selling the goods at local office buildings, she was writing How To copy for her dating column in Oklahoma Love Match magazine. And Vale… Vale had needed a break from everything. Had hoped to enjoy one last hoorah—or maybe a first hoorah—before she and Nola settled down and opened a fancy-schmancy gourmet donut shop slash catering center slash speed dating and bachelorette party hub, with Vale on paperwork duty and Nola behind the oven and the counter.

Vale’s biggest mistake? Booking each extracurricular activity with the cheapest company possible, in order to do more stuff on a limited budget. Quality beat quantity; she understood that now. So how about a break, world?

DEAR JANE – A Kendall Ryan Review

1014181.jpg

I’m so glad that Kendall Ryan branched out in to sports romance. I see a whole new genre for her to dominate! After ten years and a broken heart Jane has moved on and dedicated herself to her career as the assistant manager for the Hawks football team. The last thing she needs is the man who broke her heart to be their latest quarterback. But determination to ignore him fades as memories resurface. And the boy she knew ten years ago, isn’t the same man in front of her now.

Chase knows that seeing Jane won’t be easy but her cold shoulder isn’t what he expected; since she broke up with him ten years ago. They were each others’ first everything and they knew a long distance relationship as young as they were would be difficult, and unfortunately didn’t last. But Chase is determined to win her back over, at least her friendship so they can be civil and work alongside one another. But the more time they spend together, Chase and Jane both fall back into their old habits of flirting and comforting one another. It’s hard to deny their chemistry is off their charts and they work so well together. But Jane drops a bombshell that shakes Chase to his core and has him making mistake after mistake and risking it all to win back Jane one final time.

I loved the drama in this romance!! I’m a sucker for it, I swear. There’s a touch of slow burn alongside this second chance romance. It takes Chase a few tries to get in the game. First he has to warm Jane back up to his presence and they find that ten years hasn’t made much of a difference for the way they interact. Then she reveals why she broke up with him and he has to handle that pain fresh and raw. He doesn’t have the most mature response to that pain and has a lot to make up for in order to win back Jane again. And finally, Chase has to overcome his dedication to football in order to lay it all out on the line to keep Jane forever. Jane is tough and speaks her mind. The way they ebb and flow through this story make it such an easy read and its filled with some steamy scenes that light pages on fire! Highly recommend this romance to any romance readers!

I broke her heart ten years ago and left town.

She hates me, and rightly so. It doesn’t matter that the rest of the country loves me, that I’m a starting quarterback with a multimillion-dollar contract. Because when I look in the mirror, all I see is a failure who was too young—and too afraid—to fight for what I wanted.

But I’m not that guy anymore, and all I need is one shot to convince her.

***
He has no idea what happened after he left. And now I’m supposed to work alongside him like we don’t have this huge, messy history?

But I’m older now, wiser, and I won’t let anything stand in my way of doing a good job for this league. Not even one overpaid, arrogant player who thinks we’re going to kiss and make up.

News flash, buddy: I am over you.

STRONG – A Kylie Scott Excerpt Reveal

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series…

When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare.

As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line.

Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.”

“Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.”

“Am I?”

“Yes, there’s nothing between us.”

“So that’s why you were staring at him?”

I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.”

At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days.

Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it.

Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam.

Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated.

It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?”

On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery.

And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.

BEST SERVED COLD – An Emma Hart Review & Excerpt Reveal

img_2019

It’s time to DISH! I love Emma Hart’s books. Hardcore. Filled with snark and sass, her heroines are some of my favorites to read ever. And her heroes…always so swoony and sexy and WHEW! I’m always in for an enemies to lovers romance, but this is one mixed with a second chance romance as well! Tension-filled and sweet as can be, this new romance from Hart is a treat!

Raelynn loves her ice cream shop, Best Served Cold, but what its missing is her every dream aspect since the jerk next door opened.  Chase was her best friend and boyfriend; she loved him and told him all her dreams of what her shop could become. Until life got in the way and under the pressure she decided a relationship wasn’t in the cards for herself. Now, seemingly as revenge, Chase opened an ice cream shop right next door and its got everything she told him her future would hold. Stealing her heart is one thing, but stealing her customers and breaking her heart in the process is nigh unforgivable. Now with a kick in the pants, Raelynn is creating a new look for Best Served Cold filled with magic and wonder. But after two years of ignoring Chase and his stealing ways, now he wants back in. Is it the temptation of Raelynn and her charm or does he just want to win?

Chase is an idiot. He knows that and fully admits it to himself. Stealing his girl’s idea for an ice cream shop and opening it next door maybe not the best plan to win her back…like at all. But in his defense he just wanted something so drastic that Raelynn would finally talk to him. He hadn’t planned on two years of cold, insufferable silence. But now Rae seems to be refreshing her own shop and Chase sees it as a chance to break down her walls once more. Change is good they say. But Rae is going to be hard to crack when she’s already heartbroken; and she doesn’t even know the truth of why he opened the shop! Figuring his way back in to her heart is going to take more than just romance, it’s gunna take guts to admit the truth to the one person he’s hurt and risk it all again.

Raelynn may just be my new hero. She is sooooo snarky and her attitude towards Chase gives me life. I love that this was not an easy romance. Chase truly has some huge obstacles to overcome that you don’t often see in contemporary romances. Hes done something so personally hurtful to Raelynn that even I had a hard time forgiving and i knew why he did it! The push and pull between them is so entertaining; moments of anger mixed with confusion as to memories of their past relationship just makes for good drama. I honestly wasn’t sure just how Chase could win back Rae’s affections but the slow burn is worth the wait!

BESTSERVEDCOLD-banner1live.jpg

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Which is a real problem when the attraction runs red-hot.

Best Served Cold, an all-new standalone romantic comedy from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Emma Hart is LIVE!

BESTSERVEDCOLD-cover4.jpg

Trust me. I know. The only reason I decided to renovate my family’s ice-cream store was to serve up a sundae full of revenge for my a-hole ex who opened an ice-cream store right next to mine.

It was supposed to be simple.

Renovate. Reopen. Put his peachy butt out of business.

Until he decided to get under my skin—and broke my toe.

Now, I’m stuck with Chase in my store every day, helping me renovate. But he’s also in my head, and I’m spending a little too much time up against his abs.

Not that it’s the worst place to be.

But it doesn’t change anything. I still hate him, and I’m still going to get my revenge.

Right?

“And there goes my water.” Rae got up and dumped the contents of her glass into the sink. “Thanks for that.”

I shrugged. “Can’t drill without dust, babe.”

“Can’t drill without dust, babe,” she parroted in a high-pitched voice. “Whatever. You can drill without contaminating my water.”

“Remember who’s doing who a favor here.”

She cocked one hip and put her hand on it. “The only reason you’re still here is because I bent over an hour ago and you saw my underwear.”

I couldn’t help the twitch of my lips. “That may be a contributing factor.”

“Oh, please. You keep staring at me just in case I flash you again.”

“Actually, I’m staring at you because you look hot as fuck in that dress.” I paused. “But I won’t deny that you flashing me would be a bonus.”

Rae rolled her eyes. “I don’t even know what to say to you. You’re ridiculous.”

“Ridiculously charming.”

“Ridiculously frustrating.”

“Charmingly frustrating.”

“You—” She stopped and pointed at me. “You are. You are. You!” she growled and stomped into the kitchen.

I choked back a laugh. “I am delightful, handsome, and phenomenal in bed!”

She came back within seconds. “If you’re trying to make me fall in love with you again, you’re failing dismally.”

“Technically, I’m not trying. I’m such a delight you’ll fall back in love with me anyway.”

“You’re a raging egomaniac.”

“And you are a beautiful ray of happiness.”

“And you—wait, what?” She frowned. “When did this get turned around on me? Stop complimenting me. You don’t compliment me when I insult you.”

I leaned against the wall, still holding onto the drill. “All right, you’re a miserable little shit. Is that better?”

Her lips twitched as she tried not to laugh. “No. You’re supposed to compliment me even when I tell you not to.”

“I’m not falling for your female psychobabble.” I pushed off the wall and looked for the next ‘x.’ “Compliment yourself. I have no problem doing it.”

“I compliment myself all the time. Have you seen my boobs?”

I shot her a side-eye. “Yes. I’m also fond of those.”

Rae folded her arms across her chest. It did nothing to further her cause of pretending to be annoyed. All it did was push her tits up.

“If you’re trying to make me stop looking at your tits, you’re doing a bad job.”

She looked down and immediately dropped her arms. “Yeah, well, shut up.” She sniffed. “How many holes are left?”

I scanned the wall. “Three. You should try one. It won’t kill you.”

She shifted. “No offense, but I don’t know if I trust you around me with tools.”

“I wasn’t even near you when you dropped the scraper on your foot. I won’t drop the drill. I promise.” I paused. “If anything, I’m the one who should be worried given that you’ve already dropped the drill once.”

“That was an accident.”

“Exactly.” I pushed off the wall. “Come on. You might learn something.”

“I doubt it,” she mumbled, wiping her hands off on her dress and coming to stand at my side. “Okay, let’s humiliate me.”

I laughed and drew her into my body. She nestled against me as if she were made for me. Her ass curved perfectly into my hips, and the gentle sweep of her back flattened against my stomach and chest like a missing puzzle piece.

“Wrap your hand around the handle,” I said, raising her hand to it. “And hold onto it. Tight.”

“I think I can figure that out.”

“Remember who dropped the drill.”

She sniffed. “I didn’t expect the wall to be so hard.”

“Rae, it’s fucking brick. Not marshmallow. What the hell did you expect?”

Now that that’s out of your system…let me introduce you to a quick and sexyyyyy novella from Scott and 1001 Dark Nights. Martha seems to have Stage Dive history that I’m missing out on so I feel like this little novella is a mini-redemption for her. She’s a troublemaker who’s lived the lavish life but seems to feel a bit empty when it comes to personal connection. Home with her brother and his band (and all their little wives and kiddos) she sees snippets of the life she could’ve had. Amidst the longing, in walks their bodyguard, Sam. He’s tough and sweet, but he also seems to have a thing for Martha, despite her ice princess ways.

Whoo lordy say hello to your newest naughty dream. Sam is H-O-T. He’s a rough and gruff silver fox with a smooth tongue for Martha. Sam’s lusted over her for ten years and he’s done waiting. She seems to be home with her family for good so now he has to make his move. He’s planned it down to a T…but he wasn’t fully prepared for the chaos that is Martha. Filled with sweet and sexy, this new novella is a great taste of the Kylie Scott world!

“I don’t believe this,” I bitched. “My Valentino boots are actually sticking to the floor. That’s how gross this place is.”

Lizzy just smiled. “Told you to dress casual.”

“I am.”

The smile widened.

“Jeans and a tee is casual.”

“A tee? It’s velvet, Martha.” She held a bottle of beer up to her lips, taking a sip. “I said we were going to a dive bar. You have only yourself to blame for the fashion faux pas.”

“But velvet is in!”

“Would you two quit talking? I’m trying to listen,” said my brother, Ben. The big hairy idiot was slouched back in his chair, bopping his head in time to the music.

Lizzy shuffled closer all conspiratorial-like. “I know why you’re all dressed up.”

I said nothing. There was nothing to be said.

Next her gaze went to the man standing at the end of the bar across from us. No, no, I would not turn my head. I would not fall prey to her bullshit. After all, I’d managed to successfully avoid him for the forty-eight or so hours since my not so triumphant surprise return to the West Coast. Even with us both being in the same house. A very big sprawling house, but still.

On the other hand, it should probably be mentioned that he looked awfully good tonight in jeans and a white T-shirt with a leather jacket. Samuel Rhodes, otherwise known as Sam. Not a pretty man with his harsh features and bull-like neck, but something about him appealed to me. As always, his head was shaved and his body was built and my idiot fingers itched to explore.

Okay. So I guess at some point I must have turned my head. And shit, he caught me looking.

The corner of his lips rose just a little, just enough to mess with me, before he returned to doing his job by casually surveying the packed room. My heart did not speed up due to anything done by him. Clearly, I hadn’t totally caught my breath from when we’d walked in half an hour ago or something. That was all. Interesting to note, he did none of the checking me out typical of a heterosexual male who might have been into me. In fact, he didn’t really give me any signals at all. Ever.

MUSE – A Katy Evans Review

img_1958

Its fantasy romance but in the realm of escapism. Evan’s latest romance is between two stranded artist in the heart of a New York airport. Desperate for inspiration for her characters, Becka, tries he hardest with a week in New York to find her muse. Without much luck, she’s now stuck in the airport waiting to head home with no new words springing to life on the page. She came here looking for answers to her romance novel and how to truly bring it to life. She never planned on living out a romance herself…with the last person she expected to see on the East Coast.

Noah’s done the same; he’s come to New York to find new life in his acting career. After wishing for more heartful roles but getting typecast as the “dumb but pretty” male actor, Noah’s resigned to his fate as playing a superhero and never the swoony hero. But his muse ends up taking the form of a cute and sexy writer stuck in the airport with him. Becka’s full of life and creativity and Noah’s instantly attracted to her. Spark up the 90’s romance movie scenes as these two play games, get drunk, share secrets, and find true love!

I feel like although this was a change from Evans more “alpha” heroes Noah isn’t lacking in his sex-factor in anyway. He’s charming in a cute and goofy way; the creative type meets the jock type. I loved his interactions with Becka in the beginning; the flirting, the persuading, the innuendos. It’s a whole new side of Evans’ characters that I really enjoyed. Muse is an escape from typical romances. There’s no period of dating and some dramatic reveal that tears the two apart. Its a literal 90s romance come to life: two people stuck in an airport for a few days end up falling in love. And i fell right along with them. A quick but fun and steamy read to add to the Evans! collection!

A brand new sizzling standalone contemporary romance by New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

It was supposed to just be a quick trip to Manhattan.

My best friend was heartbroken. She needed support, and I needed inspiration.

I hoped to love the city. Bustling. Crazy. Inspiring New York.

But I ended up at the airport, heading home in the same condition that I arrived.

In a rut.

Add to all that, missing my flight and losing my laptop—the laptop, where the Best Love Story Ever sat on my hard drive.

Enter Noah Steele. Eerily familiar. Movie star. Heartthrob. Sultry romeo with bedroom eyes.

(But we’re not going there.)

He missed his flight too.

Noah is so smoldering, lip-bitingly hot, he’s not taken seriously as an actor, and is struggling to launch his career in New York.

He’s only ever had superficial girlfriends, so he’s having trouble showing true passion in his acting—the same challenge I’m having with this book.

When we met, we didn’t know that our connection would bring us the change we’d been craving.

That we’d be the very thing the other needed and didn’t know.

Each other’s muse.

*This book is a complete standalone and no previous reading is necessary to enjoy.
