PIECES OF ME – A Shiloh Walker Review

img_2407

Shiloh Walker can write some seriously dark romance. But she always finds a way to have it flow without pulling away from the suspense aspect. In Pieces of Me we meet Shadow who we learn, over a few chapters, has been on the run from her estranged ex-husband due to the extremely horrid abuse he put her through. Her way to cope: her sketchbooks that she feels comfortable enough to put it all out on paper. Every fear, every ounce of anger, and even the moments of lust she feels for the stranger on the beach she sees almost every day.

In a case of fickle fate, Shadow leaves one of her more risqué sketchbooks on the beach and it is discovered by none other than Dillian, the stranger she’s drawn over and over again. Dillian takes the suggestive drawings in stride and knows that behind the quiet and scared woman is the artist behind his every fantasy. For weeks he spends the time to earn Shadow’s trust and pull out her story and learn the truth about why she’s on the run. But even prince charming has some secrets…. And Shadow has to navigate Dillian’s evasive answers especially when her ex-husband comes after her one final time.

Every page left me clinging to the edge of my seat and wanting to know how Shadow could ever find safety. Not only do Dillian and Shadow have some incredible chemistry, the mysterious man also has a secret I was dying to know! It boggles my mind how Walker always keeps the suspense looming without ever making the story line drag. With and ending sure to leave you wanting more this new suspense romance is definitely not like the others and will have you jumping at every sound in the night!

POM Final.jpg Obsession can be deadly…

Nobody knows that better than Shadow Harper. It seemed like a dream come true when a rich, suave older man noticed her during her second year of college. Stefan Stockman seemed to love her obsessively. He came into her life and swept her off her feet, seduced her, married her…and then slowly, eventually, that dream come true became a living nightmare.

Now, three years after she finally escaped him, she’s trying to put her life back together. Haunted by memories, struggling with post-traumatic stress, she spends most of her time locked away in her home on Pawley’s Island, a small town on the South Carolina coast. Her rare moments of joy come from her trips to the nearby beach.

She compulsively checks the locks on her doors, makes sure she has her cell phones—five of them—and if she misses something on her schedule, it throws her into a panic.

When she accidentally leaves a sketchbook on the beach, an anxiety attack seems imminent. Her art has become her salvation, her sanity, and losing even one sketch is like losing a piece of her soul. When she returns to hunt for the sketchbook, already fearing it’s gone for good, she’s surprised to find it still sitting there, saved by a sexy fellow beach lover—the mysterious Dillian Jenkins.

He’s brash, bold, brutally handsome…and gentle. He’s the exact opposite of the man who’d tormented her for years, and Shadow finds herself slowly, almost reluctantly, falling for him. Even obsessing over him.

When her ex-husband once again intrudes on the happiness she’s finally discovering, Shadow turns to Dillian. But will she find shelter there…or another betrayal?

TRUST – A Kylie Scott Review

Trust is honestly one of the best books I’ve read and the fact that this is a new avenue for Kylie is surprising. She perfectly captures the age of discovering who you are all while navigating the social rules of teenage law.

Edie and John become entangled after a night of horrors leaves one teenager dead and another in jail. Having the reality of death shoved in her face, Edie begins to make changes to her life. She’s no longer rolling over to the harshities of mean girls. When a change in schools puts her in John’s path again she feels drawn to the gorgeous boy who saved her life.

John is the typical bad boy who wants to try to turn himself around after his brush with death. The interaction between him and Edie is magnetic and pulsing. I found myself not only interested in their budding relationship but in their personal journeys of acceptance as well. Watching John struggle to protect Edie from himself while still wanting to be with her was so sweet.

These two have an understanding that we get to discover throughout the story of Trust. Edie has to learn to trust those around her again and finds herself trusting John. While he’s trying to trust his new self, she has to navigate the relationships he has with other people in his life. With suspense and mystery tied in with young love, I’m definitely hoping for more YA/new adult from Kylie Scott!!

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen year old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

EXCERPT

“You were going to give it up to Duncan Dickerson?” he sneered. “Are you serious?”

I halted, staring at him. This was not good. “How do you know about that?”

“Anders overheard you and Hang talking.”

“Bastard.”

“Well?” he demanded, acting all authoritarian. Idiot.

“To be fair, I didn’t know his last name was Dickerson,” I said. “That’s unfortunate. Though, I wasn’t actually planning on marrying him, so . . .”

“Not funny.”

I shrugged.

“You barely know the guy.”

“Um, yeah. None of your concern. We’re not talking about this.” How mortifying! My face burned bright. People should just gather around and cook s’mores. “I appreciate that we’re friends. You mean a lot to me. But this is going to have to fall under definitely none of your damn business, so go away please.”

“We’re talking about it.” He advanced a step.

“No we are not.” And I retreated.

“You were going to let a complete stranger touch you.” Advance.

Retreat. “People do it all the time. You do it all the time.”

“But you don’t,” he said, taking the final step, backing me up against the side of his car and getting all in my face. “Edie, this is your first time we’re talking about. Isn’t it?”

“Yes, and it’s going to be messy and painful and probably horribly embarrassing and I just want it over and done with.” I tried to meet his eyes but failed, settling for a spot on his right shoulder. “You’re not a girl; you wouldn’t understand. Also, last time I checked, you’re not the gatekeeper of my hymen, John Cole. So back the fuck off.”

He said nothing.

Deep, calming breaths. “Look, someday I’ll meet someone I really like and we’ll have a deep and meaningful relationship and go at it like bunnies. But I don’t want to be the dumb virgin in that scenario.”

He slowly shook his head.

“Also, I do not want to die a virgin.”

“What? What the hell are you talking about?”

“Hey, you and I both know death can occur at any time.”

“This is crazy.”

“I’m seeing a therapist!” I told his shoulder. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a little bit messed up these days. It’s hard for me to trust people. That’s not going to change anytime soon.”

He screwed up his face at me. “Wha—”

“I’m just trying to be practical.”

“Well, you’re being ridiculous. None of this makes sense.”

“It does to me.”

Again, he said nothing.

In fact, he said nothing for so long that I finally looked him in the eye. The anger had left him, replaced by an emotion I didn’t recognize. Worst of all, he still smelled like summer. A little sweat and the open night air, everything I loved. Liked. I meant liked.

“What?” I said, finally.

He let loose a breath. “I’ll do it.”

THE-KNOCKED-UP-PLAN-cover

Cover Design by Helen Williams with Photography by Wander Aguiar Photography

About THE KNOCKED UP PLAN:

There are three little words most guys don’t want to hear on the first date. Not those…I mean these… “knock me up.”

This single gal has had enough of the games, the BS and the endless chase. I know what I want most, and it’s not true love. It’s a bun in the oven, and I’m not afraid to hit up my sex-on-a-stick co-worker to do the job. Ryder is gorgeous, witty and wild — and he’s also a notorious commitment-phobe. That makes him the perfect candidate to make a deposit in the bank of me.

I won’t fall for him, he won’t fall for me, and there’s no way baby will make three.

Right?

****

There are four words every guy wants to hear on the first date — “your place or mine?”

When my hot-as-sin co-worker makes me a no-strings-attached offer that involves her place, my place, any place — as well as any position — I can’t refuse. After all, my job is like a coach and my latest assignment for the good of mankind is to create a fail-safe, battle-tested, proven guide of what to do or say to get a woman to fall into your bed — I mean, fall for you. So when Nicole says she’s game to work through my list in a hands-on way, I take her up on her deal even with her one BIG condition.

There’s no way I’ll want more from one woman than any position, anywhere, any night? Except . . . what if I do?

Note: Be prepared to swoon and fan yourself from the heat! This full-length standalone contains lots of hot baby-making s-e-x, happy tears, naughty jokes and a hot, swoonworthy hero you will fall madly in love with!

A Note from Lauren:

Hey there! I have exciting news to share about the book that has been known as THE WILD ONE. You guys know that I like to keep things fresh and new, and I also like to change things that aren’t quite working as well as they were in the past. That’s why THE WILD ONE is getting a new title, a new cover, AND a brand-new release date—more than TWO WEEKS earlier than originally planned! I am so excited to bring you THE KNOCKED UP PLAN on June 23 (instead of July 10). This is a brand-new standalone story!

You may be wondering WHY I’m making this change. Let me tell you—when I first picked the title more than a year ago, I had no idea the direction the story would take. But as I was writing the book a few months ago, the storyline and characters—including a hero you’ve never met before who will melt your heart and panties—surprised me. This isn’t a story about a woman taming a wild playboy.

This standalone romance is about all of the fun, hotness, and heartfelt emotions that come when a single woman asks her gorgeous, jaded, sworn-to-be-single-forever good friend to get one very particular job done. What happens next when he agrees to provide the bun for her oven are lots of hot sexy times and heartfelt moments. The original title just doesn’t suit the storyline for Nicole and Ryder.

I love THE KNOCKED UP PLAN because it says exactly what the story is about—it’s a fun, sexy and heartfelt story that’s full of hot baby-making sex and emotions that will bring a happy tear to your eye. The best news is that I will release THE KNOCKED UP PLAN two and a half weeks early! I’m even more delighted to let you know that I have listened to all of your requests and comments and will be releasing this book on a Friday!! Readers have repeatedly told me that Friday is their ideal release day, so you will get THE KNOCKED UP PLAN on Friday, June 23! If you preordered THE WILD ONE on iBooks, B&N, Kobo, Google Play or in paperback, don’t worry—you don’t need to do anything! You’ll get THE KNOCKED UP PLAN now with that preorder, and you’ll get it on June 23! THE KNOCKED UP PLAN is not yet on Kindle, but will be a few days before its release!

So get ready to dive in to THE KNOCKED UP PLAN and watch Nicole and Ryder’s story heat up—on the page and in the sheets!

LOVE ME AGAIN – A Jaci Burton Review & Excerpt

IMG_1452.JPG

Jaci Burton knows how to write the most heartfelt love stories that make you feel all the warmth inside!

Anyone who’s read the Hope Series knows that Deacon and Loretta have a past that neither are too keen to speak on. Slowly their lives have been inching closer and closer once again. Fate has a funny way of showing you when the time is just right.

Loretta has a heart of gold and wants to make all those around her happy, even if it costs her a future she always wanted with Deacon. After being gone for years and finally having the strength to leave a marriage that was tearing her down, she finds herself back in the cross-hairs of Deacon Fox: the love of her teenage years.

Deacon’s kept women at an arm’s length ever since his girl broke his heart in high school. Now that Loretta is back, he’s not sure how to feel, or how to stay away when her adorable daughter eases her way into his heart just as easily as Loretta had years ago.

Second-chance romances are one of my favorite tropes. I love any story line where the hero and heroine have history that sets the groundwork for their adult lives to finally mesh. Loretta and Deacon have an inevitable pull to one another that will have you gripping each page with giddy excitement!

31566736.jpg In the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Don’t Let Go, it’s never too late for a second chance at first love…

When Loretta Simmons returns to Hope, Oklahoma, after a disastrous marriage, she’s determined to remain independent for the sake of her daughter. The only thing standing in her way is Deacon Fox—the man she loved and walked away from years ago.

Since Loretta owns the bookstore right next to his current renovation project, Deacon can’t escape the woman who broke his heart. Throw in her adorable little girl and one ridiculously oversized dog, and they’re almost a family. Only he can’t be that guy—what they had was once in a lifetime.

But love has a funny way of re-opening a door you thought was firmly closed…

BABY COME BACK – A M. O’Keefe Review

phonto.jpg

Molly O’Keefe: queen of all things dark, gritty, and dangerous.

Baby Come Back (which, fun fact, I got to name!) follows in tandem with Bad Neighbor. We finally get to meet Abby, the in sister to Charlotte, who we know is on the run from bad boy Jack with quite the dilemma.

Little do we know that Jack isn’t the bad man that Bad Neighbor seemed to make him! Oh my god does he have a heart of gold! Abby knows from the moment she sets eyes of Jack that he’s a manshe can’t stay away from.

Jack knows that Abby is everything he’s wanted, and could never had. When the two spend an unforgettable weekend together it seems that that future is finally within Jack’s grasp.

But when the “mob-like” bosses that have held Jack under their thumbs for years bring Abby into a terrifying reality, all bets are off. Abby got son the run, fearing for her life while touring for the future she thought she could have had with Jack.

A Jack knows he’ll do whatever it takes, even shedding the bad boy skin he’s grown in to, to get her back. Especially when he finds out that she’s pregnant with his child and the family he’d dreamed of one day having is just beyond his fingertips.

33123121 A MAN WITH NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE

I sold my soul a long time ago to pay my father’s debts. Now my life is a prison: no friends. No family. Nothing it would hurt to lose.

I never should’ve touched Abby. I tried not to, but she is beautiful, magnetic, sexy. Everything I want but can’t let myself have.

UNTIL HE MET HER

She seduced me not knowing who I was or what I really do in the shadows. I should have resisted her, but I wanted to be the man Abby thought I was for as long as I could.

But all debts must be paid, sooner or later. And mine are paid with blood.

Now Abby knows who I am, what I am, and she’s run from me.

I would have let her go for her own good. But when I find out she’s carrying my baby — there’s nowhere she can hide…

mollyokeefe1

Molly O’Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn’t looked back. She loves exploring every character’s road towards happily ever after.

Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she’s not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.
