ONE PERFECT KISS – A Jaci Burton Review & Excerpt Reveal with GIVEAWAY!

It’s small town romance with a sporty touch! Both new to the town of Hope, Josie and Zach have become friends outside of being teachers at Hope’s high school. There’s flirting and chemistry between them but Josie’s been burned before and doesn’t want to risk her new happy life in Hope for a fling. But as they spend more time together, Josie sees how kind and charming Zach is. Not only does he care about the kids he teaches and trains, he’s also becoming an animal lover; a huge win in Josie’s book.

Zach wouldn’t consider himself a loner by his own standards, though he definitely enjoys his solitude, he also enjoys coaching football and spending time with his new friends in Hope. Particularly Josie; she’s sweet, sexy, and Zach thinks there might be more beneath the quiet school teacher. As they spend more time together, Zach peels back the layers that make up Josie. While she’s sweet and endearing to her students, she’s fun and charismatic with their friends. And once Zach gets her alone, she’s the sex kitten he’d only dreamed of. But beneath all that, Josie has more trepidation towards love than Zach knows, and it’ll take a hail mary to win her over

I love that Burton sort of switched the narrative on our hero and heroine. Zach is open to falling for Josie and finding out where they could go. He’s lived solo for a long time but Josie brings out the homely side of him. He feels warmth and happiness radiating from her whenever they’re together. But Josie’s past with her mother and the lack of love in her childhood did a number on her. She believes that love is a fallacy for most and that only some people can find it. So when Zach drops the L-bomb, it forces her to re-examine her beliefs as well as what she thinks she deserves. Another a feel good romance from Burton, featuring small town characters with big personalities and captivating hearts.

91TbyK1UNpLJosie Barnes has finally found home in Hope, Oklahoma—she bought a house, started a new job as an English teacher, and takes in stray animals that no one else wants. Now she’s flirting with fellow teacher and hot high school football coach Zach Powers. But he’s almost too good to be true…

A former pro football player, Zach had to pull back after a career-ending knee injury. He’d be happy calling plays as Coach, if only he could get Josie Barnes to stop benching his players. She drives him crazy playing the stern teacher at school and the sexy woman of his dreams outside the classroom.

Josie has never had a teammate to count on. But Zach intends to show her that what they have between them is a textbook case of love.

Excerpt OPKJB

“You’re something.”

She gave him a curious look. “Is that a good something or a bad something?”

He was about to answer, but suddenly he saw a flash of something gray and white that attacked his tennis shoe. And his ankle. With claws.

He leaped up off the sofa. “Sonofabitch.”

“Oh, no. Did he hurt you?”

“He dug his claws into my ankle.”

“Aww, I’m sorry. Are you all right? Do I need to get you a bandaid?”

“It’s okay. I’m fine.” He glared at the cat.

But Josie cast a warm glance at it. “That wasn’t very nice, Tumbles.”

The cat leaped onto the back of the sofa, winding its way toward Josie’s shoulder before settling on the arm of the sofa and starting to lick its paws.

The thing that attacked him was a dark white color, had a bushy tail and some bald spots on its skin. And a face that looked like it had been smashed in by a car bumper.

Frankly, it was the ugliest cat Zach had ever seen. If it was even a cat.

Josie swept her hand slowly up and down the thing’s back. “Cute, isn’t he?”

“That cat is ugly as fuck, Josie.”

“He is not.”

“Come on. He’s a train wreck.”

She continued to pet the thing, who made vibrating noises. “Okay, he has some issues. But he’s incredibly loveable and affectionate.”

“I’m pretty sure my ankle is bleeding.”

She looked down at his feet. “Is it really?” She got up and the cat scampered off to its lair under the dining room table.

She bent down and lifted the leg of his jeans. “Let me see.”

“I was kind of kidding about the bleeding part.”

“But he scratched you. I’m sorry about that. Cat scratches sting.”

Having a beautiful woman on her knees between his legs made him forget all about the sting of a cat scratch and put his mind on other, more pleasurable things.

“My ankle’s fine, Josie.”

She sat on her heels and looked up at him. “Try being nice.”

“I am nice.”

The cat growled its disagreement. Zach really wanted to growl back, but instead he held out his hands for Josie.

“Come on,” he said, lifting her to stand. “Show me the rest of your house.”

“Are you sure you don’t want me to put something on your ankle?”

“I think I can handle a couple of scratches, but thanks.”

“Okay. Well, you’ve seen the kitchen and the dining room. There’s a screened-in porch that leads out from the kitchen.” She opened the door and led him out to what was a small but nice porch.

“I know you can’t see it because it’s dark, but I have a huge backyard. Great for animals.”

“Will you let the prince of darkness out there?”

She frowned. “The—oh, Tumbleweed? No. He’ll remain an indoor cat. I don’t want him disappearing on me.”

“Too bad.”

She nudged him with her shoulder. “You’re mean.”

He gave her a gentle nudge in return. “Am not.”

“Anyway, there’s plenty of room for other animals.”

“You have other animals?”

“Not yet. But I will.”

“Hopefully they’ll be nicer than Beelzebub.”

She shook her head. “Come on, whiner.”

They went back inside and she led him through an arched doorway and down the hall. “There’s a bathroom here, and two bedrooms, and the master is at the end of the hall.”

She paused.

“Afraid to show me the inner sanctum?” he asked.

Her brows popped up. “Is that some kind of euphemism for me showing you my goods?”

He laughed. “No. I meant your bedroom.”

“Oh. I don’t know. I might want to save that for some other time.”

“Why? Do you have some kind of sex dungeon in there?”

Her lips curved. “Do I look like a sex dungeon kind of girl?”

He leaned in closer. “I’m not sure if there’s a certain look a woman has to have in order to possess a sex dungeon. I’ll bet all kinds of people in all walks of life have one.”

“Is that right?”

“Sure. Lawyers and flight attendants and horticulturists and…I don’t know. Even teachers.”

“This teacher does not possess a sex dungeon.”

“Okay, so maybe you have some lavender candles and furry handcuffs.”

She snorted out a laugh, then turned and walked away. “If you’re lucky, you might find out someday.”

SHOT ON GOLD – A Jaci Burton Review

Shot on Gold could not have come at a more perfect time! As the 2018 Winter Olympics play on my television, I dove in to Will and Amber’s own story in the (fictional) Olympics. There’s something about hockey that just breeds some good-looking men and Will is no stranger to ladies. He’s partied his last few times at the games but as he’s gotten older, he’s decided to really focus on himself and push his career and the U.S. team to gold. Amber has had an unpredictably sheltered life. Her focus has always been figure skating and winning at all cost. Sacrificing a childhood spent outside, findings friends in competition, and even missing out on any chance at love. With a stage-mom pushing her to work harder than ever, she’s bound to break.

Will and Amber meet and it’s insta-sparks! Not only has Amber decided to go for more of everything in her life (friends, men, experiences, and just plain fun) she’s willing to try anything with Will and his charming ways. I love that Burton didn’t make either of them sacrifice their work ethic or their drive to win in order to spend time together. There’s a healthy balance between athletes and lovers. Will and Amber spend a lot of the book focusing on learning about one another. Their intimate moments are filled with words as much as they are with skin. It’s a down to earth romance still steeped in high-pressure sports arena action.

Although its a new set of characters for the Play By Play series, Shot on Gold really stands true to Burton’s down-home, feel good romances that will leave your heart feeling full and a huge smile on your face. There’s no way this series can die out!

Opposites attract when a figure skater and hockey player lace up their skates—and go for the gold…

Will “Mad Dog” Madigan is making his second trip to the Winter Games, and he couldn’t be happier. Hockey is his life and playing for the U.S. team is a privilege. Then he meets U.S. figure skater Amber Sloane. She’s beautiful, ambitious and driven—everything Will desires in a woman. He would love to show Amber how hot life off the ice can be.

Amber has skated her entire life, sacrificing everything in the hopes of one day winning gold. Now she’s competing for the third and final time. She intends to win, and nothing’s going to get in her way—until she meets Will. He’s an irresistible charmer, and before long Amber is wondering if this sexy hockey player is the perfect guy to show her some moves outside the rink.

But after all the medals have been awarded, Will and Amber will have to decide if what they have together is just a fling or a real shot at true love.

2017 Top Reads

It’s that time again! the end of the year is my favorite because it gives me a chance to look back on all of the reading I’ve done and the crazy adventures I’ve gotten to go on. Whether it was new authors, new series, or new avenues, this year held some of the most jaw-dropping and heart-wrenching books I’ve ever read! I’ve got some of my favorites and their reviews to share with you but here’s a quick look from my Year in Review on Goodreads.

WIN.jpg What I Need – J. Daniels

There’s something to be said about a southern gentleman who’s not afraid to talk dirty. Daniel’s CJ Tully is the perfect mix of sweet talkin’ man who will do whatever it takes to win his woman. But don’t let the cop uniform fool you….he’s downright dirty. And sweet Riley has to rumble her way around his confident feet.

The Deep End & The Farthest Edge – Kristen Ashley

You bet your sweet butt that KA is going to be on my list. Her latest dip into the dark erotic world of BDSM went live this year as she released two in the Honey Series. No stranger to strong men who aren’t afraid of what they like, our new heroes have a different tale to tell. With a switch up about alpha-subs and a delectable world of decadence and rules when it comes to sex, KA’s Honey Series either left you shocked or hanging on for more.

Salvaged-cover-1.jpg Salvaged – Jay Crownover

Talk about your heroes that need saving. I had been dying for Poppy and Wheeler’s romance as it was a chance for two battered broken hearts to find love. This tear-jerker romance was one hell of a way for Crownover to end her Saints of Denver series with a BANG!

Checkmate: This is Dangerous & This is Beautiful – Kennedy Fox

Magical duo Brooke Cumberland & Lyra Parish revealed themselves as the elusive Kennedy Fox after releasing their final duet in the Checkmate series. And where the two previous duets were enemies and friends to lovers, the final pair was a heartbreaking tale of loss and what may never be. With a cliff ending for book 1 that left readers in shock, the duo closed the series with a one-two punch sure to make your top reads list.

Check out my reaction to Logan & Kayla’s tale here and their finale here.

ALJackson-ShowMetheWayBookCover525x8_MEDIUM Show Me the Way – A.L. Jackson

My first A.L. Jackson novel and I AM HOOKED. In her new Fight For Me series, the first novel deals with single dad Rex fighting his attraction to his new neighbor Rynna. When dangers from their pasts their past threaten their lives and the life of his daughter…hold on.

The Final Fight – J.B. Salsbury

If you’re looking for a tale that will break you apart emotionally then build you back up, then the dramatic final to Salsbury’s Fighting Series is the book for you. It’s somehow two tales in one; our hero Braden falls in love our heroine AJ but after going to war comes home a broken man who has to learn to love again.

IMG_2541 Hooking Up – Helena Hunting

Generally the queen of romcoms filled with slapstick humor, Hunting’s Hooking Up had readers wanting strangle our new heroine’s traitorous husband within minutes. Bit with Anarchy Amie taking charge, our sassy heroine takes charge of her life….with a new beau.

Read my (hero) spoiler-free review here.

Ruthless King, Defiant, Queen & Sinful Empire – Meghan March

New to Meghan March these series completely blew me away with the dirtiest and darkest side of NOLA romance. Mount, the dark king of NOLA, claims our heroine Keira, body and soul, as a debt paid and the whole sordid tale spirals into madness from there. With cliff hangers and twist endings in each story, this trilogy was a journey straight to my favorite reads.

Read my initial reaction to Lachlan Mount here, to Keira standing her ground defiantly here, and the big finale of this sinful duo here.

Honorable mentions: While I don’t review every book I read in the year, there are a few that still hit my top reads list.

Looking ahead…

With the close of 2017 comes the highly anticipated reads for 2018! Here’s some of my big wishes for the next 12 months:

Dynamic duo Kennedy Fox blew us all away with their Checkmate series and as they come together for another series (technically two with the #BedtimeReads series!) we’ll get 4 novels based on the southern, country brothers of Courtney Bishop. Find out more about book one, Taming Him now.

BFY comingsoon (1)

J. Daniels returns to her Dirty Deeds series and is bring us the heartbreaking tale of Stitch and Shayla. I cannot express how excited I am for this story! I’m all for a heartbroken man who needs some cute little lady to love him and fight for him! (In my mind it’s me, because I am claiming him!). You can check out an exclusive excerpt from Bad For You here.

For fans of the fantasy romance Fever Series, Moning dives in again with a focus on Dani O’Malley in High Voltage. With her world seemingly in shambles after an all-encompassing battle against the Fae, a new view point and a new hero is sure to have fans begging for more!

One of my all time favorites, Julie Ann Walker, closes out her beloved Black Knights Inc. series with Built to Last. Mysterious mercenary Angel may finally reveal his secrets as we say goodbye to this MC romance classic!

Rom-com queen Helena Hunting teased a new book and new cover with Good Luck Charm. Her charming characters make for heartwarming, feel-good romance with no shortage of sexy times and hilarious moments. Find out more about this new standalone here.

Beloved school teacher Josie may finally find her prince charming in Jaci Burton’s next Hope novel, One Perfect Kiss. Burton’s sweet romances have never failed to leave readers sighing and swooning over her hunky heroes. I for one can’t wait for some more wholesome romance!

THE FINAL SCORE – A Jaci Burton Review & Giveaway

The sports romance dynasties combine and they are HOT! Mia Cassidy is now in the city where her best friend and crush, Nathan Riley now is. They had a one-time night together, but Mia loves their friendships too much to risk losing Nathan in any way. Nathan feels the same but the more time he spends with Mia, the more he thinks they could have a chance at the real deal.

This is an odd second-chance romance in that Mia and Nathan had one drunken night together but now as they are getting older they want more and see more in one another, Burton did an amazing job pairing Mia with Nathan. The first Riley boy with the young Cassidy girl…EEK! It’s what paired families dream of! But in all honesty the friendship between these two is beautiful long before they decide to make things more serious.

Both of them are supportive and honest with each other in a way that only true best friends can be. And that makes for an honestly epic romance story. I loved getting to see these two come to understand their feelings for one another beyond the boundaries of friendship. It’s a whole different world when you love someone more than just a friends. These two become true partners. Love, love, loved it!!!

33540070.jpg In the new Play-by-Play novel by the New York Times bestselling author of Rules of Contact, a star quarterback is torn between his love of the game—and the woman who may be the love of his life.

Nathan Riley is ready to follow in the footsteps of his famous football player father. He’s been drafted as quarterback for his dad’s former team, and his sports future is bright. When his friend Mia Cassidy moves to the same city, their years-long friendship suddenly sparks hot, reminding him of the one night they had together in college that he can never forget.

Like Nathan, Mia is from a sports dynasty family and embarking on an incredible new career—as founder of her own sports management company. Her friendship with Nathan means everything to her, and tossing sex into the mix again could jeopardize it all. But the chemistry between them has always sizzled, and it isn’t long before Mia realizes she wants more with Nathan than just late-night talks and pizza.

Passion has a funny way of changing the rules, and soon Nathan and Mia realize that to win it all, they’ll have to make an unexpected play for love.

LOVE ME AGAIN – A Jaci Burton Review & Excerpt

Jaci Burton knows how to write the most heartfelt love stories that make you feel all the warmth inside!

Anyone who’s read the Hope Series knows that Deacon and Loretta have a past that neither are too keen to speak on. Slowly their lives have been inching closer and closer once again. Fate has a funny way of showing you when the time is just right.

Loretta has a heart of gold and wants to make all those around her happy, even if it costs her a future she always wanted with Deacon. After being gone for years and finally having the strength to leave a marriage that was tearing her down, she finds herself back in the cross-hairs of Deacon Fox: the love of her teenage years.

Deacon’s kept women at an arm’s length ever since his girl broke his heart in high school. Now that Loretta is back, he’s not sure how to feel, or how to stay away when her adorable daughter eases her way into his heart just as easily as Loretta had years ago.

Second-chance romances are one of my favorite tropes. I love any story line where the hero and heroine have history that sets the groundwork for their adult lives to finally mesh. Loretta and Deacon have an inevitable pull to one another that will have you gripping each page with giddy excitement!

31566736.jpg In the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Don’t Let Go, it’s never too late for a second chance at first love…

When Loretta Simmons returns to Hope, Oklahoma, after a disastrous marriage, she’s determined to remain independent for the sake of her daughter. The only thing standing in her way is Deacon Fox—the man she loved and walked away from years ago.

Since Loretta owns the bookstore right next to his current renovation project, Deacon can’t escape the woman who broke his heart. Throw in her adorable little girl and one ridiculously oversized dog, and they’re almost a family. Only he can’t be that guy—what they had was once in a lifetime.

But love has a funny way of re-opening a door you thought was firmly closed…

RULES OF CONTACT – A Jaci Burton Review

*ARC received from NetGally for an honest review*

FINALLY, Flynn Cassidy has his day! I will always love the Rileys but the Cassidys quickly won me over the minute Flynn showed up on the page. I have been anticipating his story and eager to see the kind of woman that would get this charming hero’s heart. Flynn has shown up in past Play-By-Play novels as he was opening his restaurant, Ninety-Two. Rules of Contact focuses on Flynn as his project opens; fans flock to his heartwarming homestead restaurant with a brilliant chef: Amelia Lawrence.

Flynn struggles to find a woman who wants to be with him as a man and not attached to the hip of a star athlete. Amelia watches as women try their best with Flynn to win his heart only to strike out when the camera catches their eye more than the hunky football player. He’s so down to earth and endearing to everyone that he tends to give everyone the benefit of the doubt; except not he field of course.

I loved the fact that Amelia and Flynn had a playful friendship even though they were boss and head chef. The ease with which these two talked and sassed one another was reminisicent of the Cassidy and Riley families. And Flynn suddenly realizes the attraction he had to Amelia is more than friendship. Amelia is standoffish at first as her ex-husband broke her heart and gave her such distrust in finding love again.

I also enjoyed the fact that this book focused more on the story and had less of the sideline action of the sports. Not that I ever minded in the previous Play-By-Play novels, mind you; they ARE sports themed! But this had a more contemporary feel as we saw more of Flynn as the chef and the family man: almost as if Burton wanted us to see him the way he wanted to be seen to his dream woman.

I honestly thought the climax would be Amelia’s resistance to an official relationship with Flynn. She struggled with accepting her feelings throughout the entire story, mores than Flynn ever had. Flynn believing that Amelia wanted the spotlight threw me for a huge loop! I was stunned at Flynn’s reaction and was so nervous that this was it for these two.

Can’t wait to see who’s next (MIA????)! Until next time…

contact-revised-300x450In the new Play-By-Play novel by the New York Times bestselling author of Unexpected Rush, a football player with all the right moves on the field needs a better game plan for his love life.
A defensive end for the San Francisco Sabers, Flynn Cassidy is used to being in the spotlight—he just doesn’t enjoy it. But if getting in front of the cameras will help his new restaurant succeed, he’s willing. Now if he could just meet a woman who loved him and not his fame…

After her divorce, Amelia Lawrence is thrilled to start over as head chef at Ninety-Two. It’s just the opportunity she needs to heat up her career—if only she wasn’t wildly attracted to her sexy new boss. Their chemistry might be sizzling hot, but Amelia has no intention of being burned again.

Amelia is genuine and fun and Flynn can’t get enough of her—and Amelia loves every second she spends with the tough but tender Flynn. But trust is a hard fought battle for both of them. Breaking the rules of contact and surrendering to their passion was easy, but are they willing to risk their hearts to win at the game of love?

MISTLETOE GAMES: A Jaci Burton Review

***ARC Received from NetGalley for an honest review***

Hey all! I was fortunate enough to get the chance to FINALLY read Mistletoe Games the holiday anthology set from Jaci Burton!

18086963Holiday Games takes us back to Liz and Gavin Riley after they’ve married. Liz, as with all the women of the Play by Play series, is strong and independent. Her whole life she’s done what she could to get ahead despite having a gigantic crush on her client Gavin. in Changing the Game we got to see her walls finally come down and watch as her and Gavin fell head over heels for one another in an explosive affair. Now we get to glimpse into their life as they attempt to get pregnant. I like the fact that Burton took the route of the difficulty of pregnancy. Liz struggles with herself and the troubles she’s had to get pregnant. I also enjoy that Burton didn’t focus just on Gavin’s support of Liz, she focused on Liz’s ability to have faith in herself and from her closest girlfriends and family. Truly a heartwarming story that I love!

20985459Holiday on Ice introduces us to two knew but familiar characters, Stella: the lead ballerina and Trick, the stud hockey player. Stella’s past holds a terrible break up that leaves her without the ability to commit to any man. She has no problem having her fun with them and Trick was one of the best she ever had. When Trick sees Stella months after they seemingly drifted apart, he knows he can’t let her go again. Undeniably attracted to one another, these two make for one steamy pair. But when Trick begins to lay out how he feels and Stella fears that the past may rear its head again, she can’t decide what to do. Trick’s commitment to Stella and his honesty with her is what drew me most to him. Plus glimpses of Drew and Carolina made me exceedingly happy!

26040381Hot Holiday Nights is one of the sexiest Jaci Burton stories I have EVER read! WHEW! Victoria is finally on vacation in Hawaii after working her ass off as a sports agent and she’s been looking forward to some much deserved vacation bliss. What she didn’t expect was a surfing competition that leads her to sexy surfer Alex and a hot night between them. Surprisingly after their tryst it turns out that Alex’s agent, Ben, had been in the room and witnessed their love affair! Now Victoria’s got eyes for Ben too; and it seems they both don’t mind sharing. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. After nights of insane pleasure beyond their dreams, Victoria, Ben, and Alex have to come to terms with how they all feel for one another…and what the future will hold. This last story honestly took me by surprise and i have to commend Burton for going a little out of her general romance/sexy field in the steamiest scenes I’ve ever read from her!

Until next review!
