DAY OF THE DRAGON – A Katie MacAlister Review

Who doesn’t love a good dragon tale? MacAlister delivers again with another gut-busting, action packed dragon hunter novel to add to her back-list. Where book 1 gave us a human thrust into the role of a dragon hunter, DOTD focuses on a dragon shifter and his quest to save his lineage. Under the direction of his wayward cousin, Archer Andras is now on the hunt for a dragon scroll that tells the tale of his birth (alongside his brother’s) and how it split the dragon lineage apart in to two factions that are now at war. The scroll holds the key top unlocking Archer’s full potential as a dragon hunter, one prophesied. But the scroll is in the hands of one delectable human that Archer can’t seem to get his mind off of. Now he’s fighting for more than just his own namesake, now he’s fighting for his mate.

Thaisa, a secretly world-class translator and historical extraordinaire, has some wacky friends. When a much needed girl’s night out leads to dragon and magic talk, she’s convinced she needs to head home. But when she arrives, a man claiming to have purchased a new, rare scroll is there to collect. Dashing and devilishly handsome, Archer talks Thaisa into letting him take the scroll but it’s the biggest mistake of her career. Under her boss’s threat to retrieve it, she has to navigate a new world she’s never even dreamed of. Dragons, fairies, magic, and demons are all a new part of her world and Thaisa is stuck right in the middle of it. All the while Archer is by her side warming her with his dragon fire and tempting her to leave it all behind. Despite the world of magic, in order to save Archer’s people, their future, and even Thaisa’s Gran (threatened by her boss), only Thaisa holds the key to translating the scroll to unleash Archer’s true power.

Filled with the typical wit and humor from any MacAlister book, this fantastical story reminded me a bit of King Arthur. A runaway prince, dreaming of finding his true destiny and a lovely maiden to tie it all together. This is true fantasy wonderfully melded with the modern world. Rocking side hicks, hilarious hi-jinks, and demon battles to keep even the slowest reading flipping the pages faster and faster. Another truly wonderful addition to the massive library that is MacAlister’s fantasy romance come to life!

With dragons like him, who needs enemies?

Real scholars know that supernatural beings aren’t real. But the moment I meet Archer Andras of the Storm Dragons, all my academic training goes out the window. Thanks to Mr. Tall, Dark, And Infuriating, I’m learning that I really should worry about those things that go bump in the night. . . and that dragons like Archer are 100 percent pure trouble.

Now I’m caught in the middle of a war. On one side is Archer. On the other is his twin brother. And I am the key to translating an ancient text that could bring balance—or deadly ruin—to our world. But none of that is as dangerous as the seriously sexy sparks between Archer and me. He’s too tempting to be real. Too gorgeous to trust. And when it comes to dragons, there’s no smoke without deadly fire.

MEMOIRS OF A DRAGON HUNTER – A Katie MacAlister Review

img_1864

Dragons and demons and spirits, Oh my! I’m so glad Katie Mac when back to her dragon world! Filled with new characters, new tales, and new obstacles to overcome, Memoirs is non stop action from the first page.

Estranged from her half-sister, Ronnie is met with a startling realization about the world she lives in. As her sister is desperate to tell the tale of dragon hunters, demons, and protecting mankind, she lays dying in Ronnie’s arms and hands over a sword bequeathing her powers to her sister. Now a dragon hunter with little knowledge of who to trust, Ronnie has to complete her sister’s mission and help save a woman and her two daughters before demons get their hands on them. But her new neighbor, Ian, seems to be on the same mission with slightly different reasons.

On par for every Kati Mac book, Ronnie is hilarious, particularly in her way of thinking and awkward honesty. Her best friend and self-appointed sidekick Teresita is rib-crackling funny. While Memoirs may be an action packed romance, there’s definitely no shortage of comic relief between the demon fights and Ronnie learning her new skills form Ian. And who doesn’t want a sexy teacher like Ian Iskander. Half demon, half dragon, allllll male. Ian is charming and caring not only for Ronnie but for Sasha, a charge and apprentice in his care.

Ronnie and Ian soon learn that the mission her sister gave her and Ian’s lead to the same direction. A woman and her two daughters aren’t all they seem, and Ian’s mission has a darker tone than Ronnie thought. Deception and magic turn this twisting fantasy mystery into a who-dun-it with an unexpected quirky romance on top. Definitely a fun new addition to the Katie Mac fantasy realm!

MemoirsofADragonHunter7_RGB300-278x450.jpg Dragon Hunter Wanted:
Sword supplied. No experience necessary.

One moment, I was a normal (if somewhat germaphobic) math teacher getting ready for summer vacation. Then my sister died in a pile of black ash, leaving me with a sword . . . and her destiny as dragon hunter. It turns out there’s a whole other world out there filled with demons, dragons, and spirits.

Now my job is to protect mortals—and I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing.
Then there’s tattooed hotness Ian Iskander. Part dragon hunter and part demon, Ian’s got some seriously creepy business associates and keeps trying to steal my sword.

So why do we keep getting lost in hungry, crazy-hot kisses? Ian is the only person who can help me figure out who—and what—I am. But trusting a half-demon is dangerous . . . because when you play with dragon fire, someone always gets burned.

VAMPIRE FIGHT CLUB – A Larissa Ione Review

img_3899

I forgot how much I liked the Demonica series until I read this novella! A steamy introduction to Ione’s world of vampires, demons, and shifters, Vampire Fight Club does not disappoint. As Vladlena is dealing with her issues shifting, a fact that could lead her to death, she finds out that her brother has been killed in what seems to be an underground fight club for non-humans and those of the underworld.

Nate has managed to run a successful vampire club for years, and with an illegal business in the basement run by a man he despises, he feels he’s getting to the end of his tolerance. When a shy new shifter comes in as his new medic, Nate can’t help the pull he feels towards Vladlena; the first real feeling he’s had since his mate died decades ago. Vladlena needs to find out the truth about this club but Nate can’t be the horrible vampire she believes.

With obstacles you’d never expected and a double twist ending this novella makes for another quick supernatural romance for any to enjoy!

VampireFightClub.jpg

When a wave of violence that hits too close to home forces shapeshifter and underworld nurse Vladlena Paskelkov to go undercover, her first stop is a haven of vice—with a dangerously sexy vamp in charge . . .

Legendary, jaded, Nathan Sabine is the manager of Thirst, a wildly popular vampire club—and secret underground blood arena. But Nathan, a rare daywalker, possesses other, even more explosive secrets, as does his beautiful new medic, Vladlena. The one thing they can’t conceal is the lust that simmers between them . . .

Now, in an underworld divided by revelry and violence, debauchery and vengeance, Nate and Lena will discover which risks are worth taking—and which desires demand surrender . . .

Vampire Fight Club was previously published in the Supernatural anthology. It falls in the Demonica series as book 5.5, and it is also the prequel to Base Instincts.

THE DARKEST PROMISE – A Gena Showalter Review

IMG_1825

So it’s no surprise that Gena Showalter’s latest installment of the Lords of the Underworld series is great. But this story holds a certain significance to fans of the series. This is the story of Cameo; a fierce warrior who is inhabited by the demon Misery…where a single word from her can bring tears to any eye.

For years we’ve watched as Cameo desperately wanted to be a part of celebrations, to feel the excitement of a battle, to know the joy of her friends’ company. But Misery loves company and always led the others around her to feel nothing but pain and sorrow. An endless cycle of the inability to just be happy.

Enter Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual, a king of an alternate universe where Cameo finds herself. Little does she know that Lazarus has been a part of her past; a past that Misery has kept from her and one that holds the greatest happiness she’s known.

Showalter’s has a way of showing how her characters are not only strong but also have the ability to empathize with the ones they care about. Slowly seeing the way that Lazarus fought against his desire for Cameo was completely charming (and hilarious). Along with discovering the spark between Cameo and Lazarus, we also get to see how deeply Misery has rooted itself in to Cameo’s psyche. And Showalter takes us down the path of Cameo’s self-discovery of her own true feelings and desires.

The only other story I’ve been waiting for just as long as Cameo’s is William and Gilly’s…a lot of new information in The Darkest Promise!!
