POISON KISSES PART 3 – A Lisa Renee Jones Review

img_4449

The end is here for Seth and Amanda as the past comes the light and truths are hidden behind masterfully woven lies. Amanda fears the past is repeating itself as it seems the Assassin has struck again. Seth knows that convincing Amanda that someone is out to destroy both his and her reputation is going to be a battle to the death; he’s just not sure who’s going to die.

Now that these two seemed to have admitted their love for one another and have fully dived in to trust, only one secret remains: are Amanda’s parents truly dead and who killed them? Who stands to gain from their fall? When the unbelievable presents itself, they have to allow other people in to help them clear their names.

Jones does a great job of weaving together multiple stories and making you doubt what you know is going on as these characters fight for what’s right. I loved watching Amanda and Seth realize there is more to life than killing, even if that IS your life. Only downside: the climax of the stories ARC with our mad scientist out to poison thousands. I was a bit let down for how it all came together. But maybe that was my own brain for wanting a grandiose and explosive ending.

Title: Poison Kisses Part Three
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Release Date: February 20, 2018
Those you love, know how to hurt you. Those you love, know what to hide, because they know what is unforgivable to you. Now that I know what Seth hid from me, I want the secret to be the lie. I don’t want to kill him. I don’t want to leave him. I guess that’s why they say there is a fine line between love and hate. I love and hate that man with such passion, that it damn near hurts. But now, as we face down our shared enemies, as we are lead right back to an explosive discovery about my family, and to the night Seth and I parted ways, we will both be exposed in every way. And it’s time for me to decide if I plan to love Seth Cage for the rest of my life, or kill him, before he kills me.

“I hate you, Seth Cage,” she proclaims in what I know to be an out-of-character emotional outburst that tells me I’ve rattled her.
And earns her my cool reply. “There’s a fine line between love and hate, sweetheart,” I say, but I don’t want her to hate me and it pisses me off. What is it about this woman that makes her my weakness? “I wonder if I missed the taste of poison on your lips, or did I just choose to ignore it?” And I need to know that answer. I close my mouth down on hers, my tongue sliding into her mouth, rough, angry, but she doesn’t respond. She doesn’t even touch me, and I won’t allow her that win. I fold her against me, cupping the back of her head, my tongue licking against hers until she finally fucking moans, and responds.
And damn it, she still tastes just as good as she did, just as right when she’s wrong, but at least I know now. Everything right about this woman will always be wrong, including the moment she bites my lips, drawing blood. “I still hate you,” she hisses.
Wiping my lip, I’m wildly aroused by what just happened, which proves how fucked in the head this woman makes me. And while I’m certain we’d both be more than comfortable with the idea of me pulling her skirt up and fucking her right now, and letting her think she’s manipulating me again, that has to wait until I have her someplace to myself. I release her, snatching up her gun and shoving it under my jacket, inside my holster. “Meet me at the south exit. If you aren’t there, I’ll kill you and then move on to Plan B and kill Franklin. And yes. This is a test. Pass it or you’ll be in my bed, in handcuffs for the rest of your life.”
“You said you’d kill me.”
“After I cuff you to my bed.”
I move to the door and exit into the staff hallway, and then the main school hallway, the scent of her, sweet jasmine, clinging to my skin. Damn it, I used to love that smell.
I’m halfway to the exit when suddenly she’s beside me. “As I know you know from whatever file they gave you on me,” she says without looking at me, “I watched people die because of that man in China seven years ago when he set off poison gas in the subway. I’m not sitting back while he does it again.”
I don’t reply. I just keep walking, but now she’s by my side again, as she was for three solid months, three years ago. Her words and actions are reminding me of what I’d found so damn appealing about this woman: her conviction and her moral compass that were greater than mine, that made her too good for me, and yet, made me want her all the more. Only, it was an act, a façade maintained even now and well. She’s an enemy in an uncomfortable alliance. I don’t believe a word she has said.
We reach the exit and I pause with her directly to my right, my eyes capturing hers. “You’re with me now and no one gets to take you from me. And I’m the only one who gets to kill you.”
“You’re so damn romantic,” she says. “No wonder I missed you.”
“You missed me, sweetheart?”
“That wasn’t literal.”
My lips curve. “And yet you kissed me like you missed me.”

POISON KISSES PART 2 – A Lisa Renee Jones Review

img_4448

Seth and Amanda’s story continues as the super spy duo race to find a mad scientist while navigating their untrustworthy past. Part 2 focuses a lot on Seth and Amanda’s ability to work alongside one another and to at least in the field trust each other’s skill set. There’s not a lot of back and forth from present and past but there’s a deep dive in to Seth’s emotions about Amanda and why she betrayed him years ago. For Amanda it’s the belief that Seth was set to kill her and how can she ever learn to trust him again, even in the face of saving the world.

I liked the continued push and pull between Seth and Amanda. This isn’t some soft and sweet lovey-dovey romance. There’s shoving and biting as these two want to hate each other as much as they want each other. The tension and sexual energy is cataclysmic as they fight for dominance. Slowly the two both begin to reveal what truthfully happened on that fateful night 3 years ago that separated their lives. Seth wanted nothing more than to have Amanda at his back. Amanda feared for her life and the lives of her parents. As they both reveal more and more of the truth, their walls start to crumble and the chemistry that was between them now builds and builds as they prepare to face their foe. With a shockingly misunderstood ending, I can’t wait to see how the finale will wrap up their sordid tale!

IMG_4365.JPG

An amazing start to Lisa Renee Jones Dirty Money world spinoff! Seth, the mysterious man beside Derek Brandon has an even more mysterious background. And I for one am so interested in how may skeletons are in his closet.

As our first novella enters Seth’s past comes back to haunt him. Amanda, the woman he loved and who betrayed him has reappeared on his radar. Now he has to work beside her as an enemy from their past also reappears. His final mission after they stop a madman: he has to kill her. Upon finding her, the explosive past hovers between them and the sexual tension is so thick that it left be breathing heavy and dying to find out more. As they collide, so does the memory of their beginning.

Jones tells a second story alongside our hero and heroine. We get the chance to see Seth and Amanda’s start. Two undercover spies who are whip-smart and ready to defend themselves at a moments notice leaves for some intense moments. Match that with their sexual tension and this explosive story should get really interesting. I can’t wait to see just what will happen in Seth and Amanda’s story…and what happened in the past.

SURVIVE THE NIGHT – A Katie Ruggle Review, Excerpt Reveal & Giveaway

IMG_4381

How do I state how much I love this book. Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain series have always been filled with action and suspense. But Otto’s story is the MOST action-packed romance ever and doesn’t disappoint at a single moment! Alice aka Sarah lives a life of control under he brother’s thumb. Always proper, always obeying; she can never step out of line for fear of his abuse. When a rival to her brother whisks her away under heavy fire and the cover of night….she escapes to Monroe to meet our quiet Otto.

Otto, despite the past few months with his partner’s girlfriends’ trouble, likes to live a quiet life. He rehabilitates animals, particularly dogs, and spends his time on his farm tending to them. When Sarah whirls into town bringing chaos and destruction behind her, he feels an undeniable pull towards her. Not only does she share a common shyness with Otto, but she feels the pull right back and the two bond quicker than ever. Seemingly timid, Sarah surprised me as a heroine that despite her timid nature, she’s extremely intelligent in moments of panic and when she needs to survive. I’ve fallen in love with both Otto and Sarah.

Ruggle absolutely nails these two as she perfectly describes and paints the picture of their version of communication. There are a lot of silent glances and long moments of quiet between these two seemingly introverted characters. Completely opposite that is the chaos that attacks the town of Monroe behind her as Sarah’s brother and his team fight to steal her back. As the past collides again for our previous books’ heroines its time for all of Monroe’s inhabitants to come together for the fight of their lives! This is definitely a five star action romance win!

Breaking out of his thoughts, Otto strode to the viner entrance. Even at that early hour, it was starting to fill up with customers. Giving Jules a nod of greeting, he made his way to the table that had become their usual meeting spot after the diner had been blown up two months ago.

Hugh saw him and swiveled around, attempting to prop his leg on the chair next to him, but Otto was already there, sliding into the seat.

“Quit swinging your leg around,” Otto grumbled, flipping his coffee mug right side up. “It’ll never heal if you keep abusing it.”

“I’m not abusing my leg. You’re thinking of another body part.” Wiggling his eyebrows comically, Hugh returned his foot to the chair across from him.

Otto didn’t laugh. “Your broken arm?”

“No, my…” Hugh’s reply trailed off as Otto gave him a stern look. “You know, I liked it better when you were obsessing over Theo, rather than me.”

“I didn’t.” Theo leaned back in his chair, his normally severe expression amused.

“Maybe if you’d quit getting shot and breaking bones, then I could ‘obsess’ less,” Otto suggested. Sometimes he felt like the ground crew for two reckless acrobats, running around trying to catch them before they hit the ground.

Jules hurried over to their table and poured him some coffee. “How are you, Otto?”

He couldn’t honestly say “good,” since he was living in a hot swamp of still-fresh humiliation after his last encounter with Sarah, plus he’d had to wake up every three hours to bottle-feed puppies, but any response other than “fine” would awaken Jules’s curiosity, and he didn’t want to deal with the interrogation that would follow. Instead, he raised a shoulder and grunted.

“Uh-oh,” Jules said, meeting Theo’s gaze. The two exchanged a look that Otto knew boded poorly for him. “There’s a story here. Hang on. Let me get the Lynches their breakfast platters, and then I’ll be back to hear the whole thing.”

“There is no ‘whole thing,’” Otto protested, but Jules was already gone. From Hugh’s laughter, his huffy mood had disappeared, as well.

Theo leaned toward them. “Before she gets back, what did you learn?”

“About what?” Otto’s brain felt foggy from lack of sleep.

“The newest houseguest,” Hugh prodded. “We haven’t had a chance to talk about it yet, and Grace still won’t let me near her. You’re the only one with access. Did you manage to get her license number?”

It seemed like he couldn’t escape from reminders of Sarah. A fresh wave of humiliation flooded him. “No.” Otto didn’t just mean he didn’t get her license number; he meant that there’d be no discussion about Sarah…not until he could forget what he’d said, which probably meant they could never talk about her. Otto would be okay with that.

“You didn’t?” Hugh sat back, wincing slightly and reaching his good arm to reposition his leg. “I knew I should’ve followed you up there, but Jules threatened my life if I did. What’s her last name?”

Pressing his lips together, Otto gave a single, sharp shake of his head.

“Are you blushing?” Hugh asked. “Holy monkey balls, you are! Why are you blushing, Ninja Paul Bunyan?”

“I’m not.”

“You are.” Theo eyed him from across the table. “Why?”

“What did you do?” Hugh gave him a feigned look of horror, and Otto resisted the urge to punch him.

“What could we have done?” he scoffed instead, staring down at his untouched coffee. “It was two minutes. Grace was there.”

Theo was still studying him. “You like her?”

Opening his mouth to deny it, to say he felt nothing, Otto found he couldn’t get the words out. Instead, he gave the same half-assed shrug he’d offered earlier.

“Yeah?” Hugh sounded fascinated, and Otto had to resist the urge to roll his eyes. It wasn’t that uncommon. “You have a thing for her? The last time you had a thing for someone, it was that dispatcher who moved to Cleveland right after you got up the nerve to ask her out. What was that—two years ago?”

“Three,” Theo corrected, his gaze not leaving Otto’s face. “Consider doing a background check before you get in too deep.” Otto gazed at him evenly, and Theo gave a half smile and a shrug. “Do as I say, not as I do.”

“If you like her,” Hugh said, “you’re not the right one to be investigating her. Things get fuzzy when there are emotions involved. I should know. Want me to dig around for you?”

“There will be no digging,” Jules stated as she pulled a chair from a nearby table and plopped down next to Theo. “Hey, sweetness. I’m on break so you can kiss me now.”

Theo gave her a smile and obliged. Otto focused on his coffee until they came up for air.

“Okay.” Jules sounded a little breathless. “Now what’s this about digging?”

“We were talking about gardening,” Hugh lied easily, and Otto held back a snort.

“Uh-huh.” Jules sounded as skeptical as she should be. “Gardening. In November.”

Hugh gave her a sweet smile. “Never too early to start planning.”

“Right.” After giving Hugh a suspicious look, she turned to Theo. “What were you really talking about?”

“Otto likes Sarah.”

Mouth open, Otto stared at Theo. He’d expected Hugh to spill the beans, but Theo? “What the hell?”

Looking completely unrepentant, Theo laid an arm over the back of Jules’s chair and picked up his coffee mug with his free hand. “I would’ve just told her later.”

“That’s true,” Jules said, leaning forward with the same gossip-loving expression as Hugh. “He knows better than to withhold juicy tidbits. It’ll be useful to have me in the loop, though. I can talk you up to her, arrange ‘coincidental’ meetings, let you know her date preferences, and all that.”

Otto groaned, tipping his head back and closing his eyes. Why had he even bothered getting out of bed that morning? He could be wallowing in embarrassment with puppies sleeping on him, rather than wallowing in embarrassment with a growing crowd of amused, overly helpful friends.

“I’ll find out today what she thinks about you.” Jules was still talking.

“Please don’t.”

Hugh was snickering. “Fair warning, buddy. I have to tell Grace, too.”

Opening his eyes, Otto turned his best glare—one that transformed even the surliest suspect into a compliant heap of goo—on his partner, but it only made Hugh grin wider.

“Sorry, but if she found out that she was the last to know, my life wouldn’t be worth living anymore. Grace would make sure of that.” Hugh made a mock-terrified face.

“I’m not interested in Sarah.” Otto held back a wince. It sounded like a lie, even to him.

It didn’t help when Jules and Hugh started laughing. Even Theo looked amused.

His only hope was to change the subject. “Jules, I need a favor.”

She bounced a little in her chair. “Do you want me to ask Sarah what her favorite flower is?”

“No. Can you take care of the puppies tonight during my shift?”

“Puppies?” Jules still looked excited, even though he’d shut down her matchmaking. “Of course. Dee is going to be out-of-her-mind thrilled.”

At the mention of the little girl, Otto managed a smile. “How’s the cat?”

“He’s great. Turtle is quickly becoming the king of the house.”

“Turtle?” Hugh repeated. “Interesting name for a cat.”

Jules shrugged. “It involved about eight hours of discussion over two days. Once everyone agreed on a name, I wasn’t about to argue.”

“Jules!” Megan, the diner owner, yelled from her spot by the window. “Break’s over. The Silver Fork Casino bus just pulled up.”

Making a face, Jules pressed a quick kiss to Theo’s cheek before standing. As she returned her chair to its rightful spot at the neighboring table, she said, “See y’all later.” She winked at Otto. “Drop the puppies off anytime this afternoon. I’ll make sure we’re all home.”

The emphasis reminded Otto that Sarah would be at Jules’s house, and he almost groaned. A part of him was eager to see her again, but facing her after his super-creep act the other day would be rough. He gave Jules a slight nod, hiding his apprehension, and then turned back to his partners.

When he saw their smirks, he braced himself. Breakfast was going to be rough.

ACE OF SPADES – A Sandra Owens Review

ECAF0A69-9F5E-4C49-9E4E-F4F31C2DE4A2

The third book to Owens’ Aces & Eights series is here! Nate has watched over his brothers for as long as he can remember. Now it’s time to confront their past and a secret that’s haunted them for years. By Nate’s side is his partner and the woman of his dreams, Taylor. As FBI agents, they both know how to kick ass and take names. But when Taylor’s own past comes after her, Nate has to decide if he’ll let his own demons haunt him or will he risk it all to save her.

I loved the easy going nature between Taylor and Nate. As partners there is the unspoken trust between the two of them. They know how the other works inside and out when it comes to the job but have no idea how the other truly feels for their partner. Wanting more than a partner in her job, Taylor decides to put all her cards on the table and ask Nate for a chance. There’s a chance they could be great and Taylor accepts that Nate may not be able to give her everything. But as the two grow closer, Nate begins to realize how he truly feels for her.

Heart stopping action and a serial killer case on their hands (that is seriously soooo interesting throughout the whole book, I could easily see it being a movie!), this action romance is definitely killer. I highly recommend you read books 1 & 2 first so as you’re not lost at the Gentry brother’s past, but it can be read as a standalone if you’re your own detective and are good at figuring out puzzles. Oh and the secret the Gentry brothers have had haunting them? Well….just stick around for this shocking ending!

Two FBI agents struggle with desire in the shadow of a killer, in the third installment of Aces & Eights.

Nate Gentry has been a rock for his two younger brothers since the day their mom walked out and left them with their abusive father. Now that they’ve grown up, he’s watched Alex and Court fall in love and settle down. But Nate isn’t made for romance. He keeps his relationships casual. And getting casual with his partner is a fantasy he can’t shake…

Taylor Collins has feelings for Nate, too—and though they run hot, her best friend on the team is strictly off limits. Until a spark in his eyes says, Go for it. But reaching out could prove to be a bad move now that they’re working closer together than ever, and on the most dangerous case of their careers.

An investigation into a brutal series of murders is stirring up bad memories for Taylor, and neither she nor Nate can imagine how close to home it’s going to hit. When it does, Nate will risk everything—including his heart—to keep Taylor safe.

FALLING UNDER – A Lisa Renee Jones Review & Excerpt Reveal

img_4247

An epicly good addition to the Walker Security series, Falling Under is no boring romance. Filled with action from the start I LOVED this suspenseful romance!

Jacob & Walker Security have been tasked with protecting Jewel from a threat they can’t figure out/ A mysterious stalker ha been sending threats and now he’s leaving gifts right at her doorstep. Right away I loved Jewel’s character. She’s a bad-ass detective and stands firm in her beliefs to help save others even at the risk of herself. Jacob is just so smokin’ hot and the sparks that fly between these two are magnetic! The  fighting and the sexual tension is so strong you can feel it seep through the pages in to your mind. That kind of tension and hot action after a fight just leads to to sexy reading!

Amidst the tension there’s also a sense of sadness with both Jacob and Jewel. They each have a past marred by death though in different ways. Having them trudge through their emotions on how the other is willing to risk their life was anew twist. The sex and the feelings for one another is undeniable and obvious to them; it’s getting over one another’s inability to stay behind that they both struggle with. With nonstop mysteries from Jacob’s mysterious Green Beret past to Jewel’s cold case and current murder case; these two have more than just a strange stalker to figure out.

Falling Under New.jpg

A new sexy standalone from Lisa Renee Jones…

Ex-special forces, Jacob King, is a man who keeps to himself, having learned the hard way that letting people close to you, trusting them, might just get you killed. A lesson he learned when members of his Special Ops team turned dirty, while others, men he considered friends, died. He made them pay. He made them hurt. He put them in jail. And so he doesn’t trust anyone anymore. He keeps his women hot and fast, his friends few to none, and his clients through the elite Walker Security at a professional distance, but safe.

It works for him. Until it doesn’t.

His newest job should be simple and cut and dry. Jewel Carpenter, the daughter of the CEO of Carpenter Enterprises, is receiving death threats. He’s to protect her and find out who is issuing the treats.

Simple. Cut and Dry.

Until it’s not.

Until the chemistry between he and Jewel is all about love, hate, and sex. But even as he fights the attraction to Jewel and discovers there is more to her than meets the eye, the real threat comes not from the threats she’s receiving, but the connection she has to him. Because his past has come full circle, and those men he’s made pay for their sins now want him to pay. And what better way than the woman in his bed?

“Just to be clear,” he says, his voice low and rough. “I’m breaking every rule I own with you. I don’t fuck women I’m protecting.”

“You could hand me over to someone else,” I suggest, “and it won’t matter.”

“Not a chance in hell,” he says, his hand sliding under my hair to cup my neck. “We’ll break the rules together.”

“I’m not sure I like how you do ‘together’.”

“I’ll make sure you do,” he promises, his lips slanting over mine, and this time he kisses me like he owns me, like he wants to control me, and like I really am his, like I belong to him, and in this very moment, I can honestly say

I am. I want him, and I can’t get enough of him.

And how can it ever be enough when he’s this damn impossibly hot, and he’s such a damn good kisser. The way he makes me want his mouth on every part of me and the way he makes me want my mouth on every part of him. And so, there it is. I’m his, but I’m going to make damn sure he’s mine, too. I kiss him back as passionately as he’s kissing me. I meet him stroke for stroke, arching into him, telling him I am here and present, and I’m not even close to afraid of him or of this. He doesn’t get to control me. He isn’t making me do this. I control me, and I choose him and this.

Arching into him, his shoulder holster and mine are in the way, and I want them gone. I want him naked. Just to be certain that he knows that’s where I want this to go, my hand presses between us and I stroke the hard line of his shaft. He groans low in his throat, a sexy rough sound that tells me he gets the point. This isn’t his show. It’s ours. It’s us together, or there is no show, with or without our clothes on.

His reaction is to tear his mouth from mine, his lips lingering there though, as if he wants to kiss me again, and just when I would kiss him again, he leans away just enough to shrug out of his jacket. I take one step backward, and do the same with my blazer. I reach down and pull off my boots and he does the same. Next, we disconnect our shoulder holsters, and the truth is, it’s the first time I’ve ever been with a man who is probably more armed than me. That feels significant when it perhaps is not. He’s not a cop. He’s not that kind of career complication. He’s a Green-fucking-Beret, and one hell of a hot one, for that matter.

He sets his weapon on the couch and snags my hand, walking me toward him and taking my holster and weapon as he does. “Just making sure you don’t end up shooting me before this is over,” he says, setting it with his before shackling my hip.

“I told you I’ll wait until after the orgasms.”

“Careful,” he says, a hint of a smile on his lips again. “I might hold that orgasm and you captive.”

“You can try,” I say, but my head isn’t in the game in this moment, and somehow my hand is on his face, right by the almost smile, that seems to have complicated what should be sex, an escape, a way to pull back the emotions that umbrella stirred in me. That smile reminds me that Mr. Robot is his wall, his way to cope with death, with whatever makes him protect Jesse Marks.

He captures my hand. “What are you thinking?”

“That you have on too many clothes,” I say, before I let this go someplace emotional, somewhere that two people like us never want to go.

My hands press under his shirt, but he doesn’t immediately give me what I want. He studies me for several beats and then kisses me hard and fast. Too fast, but I get over it when he pulls his shirt off. He cups my face and kisses me, his hand sliding up my shirt, his touch fire that has me helping him pull my shirt over my head. Letting him drag me to him where he now sits on the couch. I straddle him, my bra somehow gone by the time I’m there. But my hands press to his shoulders, and I hold him at bay. “I will still arrest you if I need to,” I promise. “This doesn’t change that.”

“You aren’t going to arrest me any more than you hate me.” He glances down at my chest, his gaze a hot caress as it rakes over my breasts, my nipples, before his eyes meet mine. “Because you know I’m protecting you.”

I ignore the ache between my thighs. Or I try. “From what? The slayer or the Jesse Marks damage patrol?”

His hand slides between my shoulder blades and he molds my chest to his. “Do you really want to talk about Jesse Marks right now? Because if you ask me questions, I’m going to ask you questions when I’d much rather be inside you, giving you as many reasons as I can not to arrest me. But you pick. Conversation or fucking.”

“Both,” I say, because it’s the truth. I want answers and I want the conversation my emotions are having in my head to shut up. “Fucking first.” I push away from him and stand up, unbuttoning my pants, sliding them down my hips, and he watches me with that unreadable, robot expression that is admittedly sexy as hell. I press my lips to his and that’s all it takes.

We are crazy, hot, kissing, his hands on my breasts, my nipples, my neck. I can’t touch him enough. I can’t feel him enough, can’t get close enough, and that’s new to me. I don’t need anyone the way I feel I need this man. I don’t want to need anyone this much, but it’s too late. At least, right here, right now, I do. He rolls us to our sides, facing one another, the wide cushion of the couch more than holding us and the next kiss isn’t fast and frenzied. It’s long, drugging, and somewhere in the midst of his tongue stroking my tongue, I end up on my back with the heavy weight of him on top of me…
